Bangsa Besar dan Pemimpin Besar

Dari segi luas wilayah, sumberdaya alam dan jumlah penduduk, Indonesia adalah Negara besar. Tetapi Negara besar tidak otomatis disebut sebagai bangsa besar. Bangsa besar itu ditandai oleh peradabannya yang tinggi, atau oleh ekonominya yang kuat, atau oleh kekuatan militernya yang tak terkalahkan. Dari tiga ukuran tersebut maka Indonesia belum masuk kategori bangsa besar.Untuk menjadi bangsa besar,dibutuhkan fikiran besar dan langkah besar. Fikiran dan langkah besar biasanya muncul dari orang besar atau pemimpin besar. Dalam sejarah pemimpin besar lahir dari kancah revolusi, atau dari problem besar bangsa yang harus diatasi. Jika ada seorang pemimpin yang telaten dan sabar hingga mampu mengatasi kesulitan besar itu maka pada akhirnya ia diakui menjadi pemimpin besar.
Ciri pemimpin besar adalah citarasa dan perhatiannya jauh menembus sekat ruang dan waktu. Ruang kerjanya mungkin hanya 50 meter persegi, tetapi perhatiannya menggapai ke seluruh wilayah negeri. Waktu menjabatanya hanya lima tahun, tetapi yang difikirkan adalah untuk kepentingan bangsa 50 – 100 tahun ke depan.
Pemimpin itu ada yang hadir tepat waktu, ada yang kedaluarsa dan ada yang datang mendahului waktu. Pak Harto misalnya, muncul tepat waktu pada tahun 1965. Sosok yang sorot matanya tajam, tegas, senyumnya nampak malu-malu tetapi kemauannya tak bisa dilawan, tepat untuk menghadapi krisis bangsa akibat pengkhianatan G.30.S PKI. Pak Hartopun menjadi pemimpin besaar yang mampu menghela bangsa keluar dari krisis, dan mendorongnya hingga hampir tinggal landas. Akan tetapi karena Pak Harto kelamaan duduk dikursi kepresidenan (32 tahun) dengan demokrasi yang direkayasa, maka akhirnya Pak Harto menjadi pemimpin yang kedaluarsa, pemimpin yang kehilangan kreatifitas, dan menjadi tidak relefan dengan problem bangsa. Akhirnya Pak Harto dijatuhkan oleh reformasi.
Gus Dur adalah contoh Pemimpin yang hadir mendahului zamannya. Ketika menjadi Presiden RI, banyak sekali gagasan dan langkahnya yang susah difahami oleh orang banyak, tetapi setelah lewat waktunya baru orang berkata,...ternyata yang bener Gus Dur ya ?
Siapakah pemimpin besar negeri kita sekarang ? Periode Pak Harto yang kepanjangan menyebabkan terjadi generasi yang hilang, lost generation. Pak Harto sangat tidak suka terhadap pesaing yang menonjol. Semua calon pemimpin yang potensil menjadi pesaing diberangus atau dikucilkan. Yang nurut ditampung di DPR atau di lembaga-lembaga lain. Nah ketika Pak Harto jatuh, tak satupun stok pemimpin yang masuk kategori pemimpin besar. Itulah sebabnya reformasi nggak selesai-selesai, produk reformasi melahirkan sistem yang tumpang tindih, nggak jelas siapa yang numpang dan siapa yang nindih.
Sejarah itu bukan hanya berlangsung tetapi juga bisa dirancang. Pemimpin besar itu juga bukan hanya lahir, tetapi juga bisa dilahirkan. Oleh karena itu kini bangsa harus secara sadar memproses sistem agar melahirkan peluang pemimpin menjadi pemimpin besar. Mungkinkah ?? belajarlah kepada sejarah. Langkah besar suatu bangsa terkadang dirancang secara iseng-iseng di warung kopi hanya oleh beberapa orang. Dinamika nasional yang begitu dahsyat terkadang hanya digerakkan oleh energi 2,5 %. Yang penting adalah adanya kemauan luhur, bukan persekongkolan jahat. Indonesia merdeka adalah atas berkat rahmat Allah disertai keinginan luhur bangsa, begitu kata preambul UUD 45.
